"Sheep" Mine 6th December 2007

The Team tonight comprised of: Mike, Wes, Ian, Andy & Jo. After a few phone calls, some torrential rain, flooding and confusion over the fact Mike actually arrived on time (hence two members were then considered "late"!), the team set off from MacDonald's around 7:30pm.

As there weren't many people available we decided to have a look at a few little mines we'd found last summer. Having survived the water logged roads and heavy rain we arrived at our destination somewhere round Cwm/Dyserth way and thankfully, the rain gave up just enough to get our suits on before soaking us to the skin.

The strangest thing was the last time we were there, the field the Mine's located in was dry where this time you could hear the water running down the valley it sits in and in fact, we were watching the water bubble up through drains located in the field at a high point!?.

In the first two Mine's the only thing we really found were quartz, nothing else. However, having negotiated the *ahem* blocked entrance to the third and last entrance, Mike, Wes and Ian came upon two confused and annoyed sheep!

It has been discussed whether they may have found their way through some broken fence (which we found and fixed before leaving) and survived the 40ft drop or whether they jumped through the obstacle course and in. Either way, they were pulled out to safety and wandered away making one hell of a racket!

Not much else to say really, except that it was nice to get back to the cars, get changed and charge through for an early arrival at the fire-warmed pub and a most welcome pint of Guinness!

(Big thanks to Ian for the pictures!)
