Directions
From the car park for Cwmorthin (see Cwmorthin) take the public footpath all the way past Cwmorthin lake and up the hill beyond (and to the left of the lake). As you go up the hill you walk over Conglog mine and there are large spoil heaps. At the very top there is a “ghost village” of ruined buildings. The entrance is here with water draining out all year round.

Flood Risk
This entrance is No. 9 adit (level 9) and is not currently flooded. There are areas chambers are flooded up from the lower levels

Mine Attributes
Slate but with many mineral intrusions such as iron, sulphur and calcium

Description
A large, double wide entrance which is draining water from the main mine. Evidence remains of two rail tracks and the main tunnel is probably ½ mile long before reaching the main workings.

This is a significant mine where part of it was lost in a collapse many years ago and it is believed that the equipment from that time remains in situ.

There are many slate chambers with some exposed to surface at the rear of the mine. Some chambers are seriously collapsed and navigation down back-filled slate spoil within some of the chambers is precarious.

There is a flooded chamber with a teasing adit beyond which cannot be reached except by boat or flight.

Mineral intrusions (especially sulphur) are very common with some pretty gypsum pin crystal formations coloured white, silver and gold.

Some artefacts remain and evidence of the internal workshops is still present.



Unexplored Passages
Beyond the flooded chamber is unexplored and quite probably we haven’t found every connection in the backfilled chambers
